The bariatric pureed diet is not for the faint of heart. Let’s face it.

Although, congratulations on finishing your liquid diet! Now you get to embark on some very soft textured foods! It doesn’t have to be all bad. Keep in mind all bariatric programs differ in the recommendations so review your guidelines and then get creative with adding flavor to those options!

This recipes allows you to enjoy the flavors of a Italian Chicken or other Italian inspired meal while still focusing on very soft ingredients. The KEY here its TINY bites, go SLOW, pause in between every bite, and stop at the first sign of fullness. Listen to that new pouch and have fun embarking on new flavors again!

Canned chicken can be made several different ways to keep your pureed and soft phase diet more exciting. Programs differ on when you can use canned chicken, so be sure you know when you can introduce this ingredient. Once you can, you might consider trying one the recipes below (links under photos):

Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients into a small blender or use the back of a fork to blend ingredients until well incorporated and mixture looks soft.
  2. Move to bowl and microwave 30 seconds.
  3. Optional variation: add low-fat cottage cheese or ricotta cheese for a lasagna style meal.

This recipe makes one serving. Each serving provides an estimated 13 grams protein, 3 grams carbohydrate and 4 grams fat.

  1. This recipe sounds great! The pureed diet isn’t for the faint of heart! I remember being on pureed at my nephew’s second birthday party. Everyone else was eating sandwiches and salads, and I had pureed fat-free refried beans. It was sobering to say the least. I’m glad I was able to get my obesity under control thanks to my sleeve.

    This recipe would be really good layered with some ricotta cheese with mozzarella cheese baked on top. Yum!
