Keeping variety in protein shakes is SO important and yet SUPER hard.

If you are on your pre-surgical diet for bariatric surgery or you’re on your post-surgery liquid diet…hang in there.

It does get better! I know the sweet drinks are exhausting and you need something new. My best encouragement is to search around on this site (and others) for ideas to get your wheels turning. Flavoring extracts can make an ordinary shake totally different with just a splash of something new.

For this recipe, it’s adding some of the juice from mandarin oranges. You can also do this with orange extract…flavor changes make a big difference!

Ingredients

  • 6 oz unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tbsp 2% cottage cheese can substitute plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 tbsp juice from cup of mandarin oranges (packed in natural juices)
  • 6 ice cubes

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth.

Varies depending on the brand of protein powder used.
