  1. This recipe sounds great! The pureed diet isn’t for the faint of heart! I remember being on pureed at my nephew’s second birthday party. Everyone else was eating sandwiches and salads, and I had pureed fat-free refried beans. It was sobering to say the least. I’m glad I was able to get my obesity under control thanks to my sleeve.

This recipe would be really good layered with some ricotta cheese with mozzarella cheese baked on top. Yum!

  2. Do you need to use canned chicken for your chicken recipes I’m 2 weeks post op and about to start the pureed food soon.
I’m not sure if I can make my own shredded chicken breast (ex: in a slow cooker)that it would be tender/soft enough.

  3. @Cheryl Morren every program is different so follow the guidelines outlined by your surgeon and bariatric team! If it were my patient I would at the least keep it to dark meat poultry and shred it with a little warmed broth mixed in. Even then I would do so closer to week 3 post-op. Compare that to what your program recommends!

  4. That is the shittest recipe I have ever seen!! Tomato sauce and canned chicken!!
    Yuk!
Make something from scratch with fresh ingredients!!

  5. Hi Tess. It’s true the post bariatric puréed diet leaves much to be desired. Healing is top of mind and textures can cause significant issues. To create this recipe from scratch I would recommend boiling chicken thighs and finely shredding then mixing with a homemade tomato puree. Many patients would prefer not to go through the work for only a couple bites and the puree diet is quite temporary- usually two weeks.

  6. 5 stars
Can’t wait to try…. Can’t wait for soft foods lol thank you for posting this.

  7. Yay congratulations Ashley! It’s not for the faint of heart but it’s so worth it!

  8. Need more recipes for my niece who is on a 6-week liquid diet due to fractures on both sides of her jaw!

  9. @Alandra Pryor it will depend on your programs guidelines and timeframe since surgery! For many patients they could use ground chicken in this recipe around week four post-op but that varies greatly.

  10. @Roberto Elma it may depend on your program and what you are cleared for. If someone is just a couples weeks out and starting protein for the first time, it would be better to used canned chicken or chicken thighs that are pureed. Chicken breast as a white meat has more density and would be advised after 4 weeks for most programs
