Best Selling Bariatric Snacks

Best Selling Bariatric Snacks | FoodCoach.Me

I often get asked from my weight loss surgery patients and FoodCoach.Me followers what products I would recommend buying online from Diet Direct.

This includes things like protein bars, protein shakes, protein chips or even protein oatmeals.

I’ve worked for three bariatric clinics and two of those offered a robust in house nutrition store. I have sampled a crazy large amount of protein supplements through the years as I’ve helped bring on products to those stores that were both appropriate for our weight loss surgery patients AND didn’t taste like total cardboard.

I have had some nasty supplements.

But I also remember the day we were sent the first box of Quest Bars, and the first PowerCrunch Bar.  I also remember the top selling Caramel Crunch bar that just seemed to never get beat out as a favorite!

I have not forgotten some of the more offensive ones either. Blah! Or the ones we ended up putting on clearance because they weren’t selling before they were expiring!

So while I’m not here to sell you protein supplements that I have myself, I am going to do a review of the products I remember being the most popular that are available to you from Diet Direct.

Diet Direct offers different incentives like 14 free shakes for signing up for emails or $10 off your first order. You can often find a deal or stay in the know on their deals form their .

Some of these links are affiliate links which means FoodCoach.Me will receive a small commission if you purchase. If you do, thank you! I assure you I still only give positive reviews to the ones I truly like.

BariWise Protein Chips

Bariatric Snacks Protein Chips

These were ALWAYS a best seller at both my previous clinics. Like, could not keep them on the shelves. Especially when patients miss salty, crunchy snacks.

Most patients had them with their deli meat and cheese rollup so they felt like they were having a sandwich and chips. All the flavors were really popular but Barbecue Crunch always blew the others away.

Nutrition info for one bag: 130 calories, 10 grams protein, 14 grams carbohydrate and 4 grams fat.

Cost: Different deals available but at listing $13.95 for 7 bags ($2 per bag)

I still treat these like a protein bar – only on occasion with a meal or to replace a really chip habit ;)

WonderSlim Cheddar Crunchers

Cheddar Crunchers | Salty Snacks Bariatric Surgery | FoodCoach.Me

These are a hit or miss product but most patients wanting a CRUNCH really appreicated it..becuase it has some serious crunch. Like, don’t eat if you don’t want people to hear you because it is a CRUNCH!

The powdery flavor is okay but not super strong compared to the protein chips above. Some patients would use this on top of salads or chili or something that they wanted to add the crunch to, which also made their bag last longer :) Also comes in Honey Mustard and was a popular flavor.

Nutrition: 130 calories, 10 grams protein, 17 grams carbohydrate, 2.5 grams fat

Cost: Different deals available but at listing $13.95 for 7 bags ($2 per bag)

This product gets higher on protein so great to add to something else like chili or deli meat roll up.

Caramel Crunch – ALWAYS a Best Seller

Bariatric Protein Bar | Caramel Crunch

When I started at my first WLS clinic in 2009, the other dietitian and I took over the handling of the nutrition store. We sampled everything and we both loved the caramel crunch bar. Apparently we weren’t alone because I bet for the next 3.5 years I was there, it was always in the top 3 best selling items! When I started a nutrition store at my next clinic, I knew we needed to sell it. Patients love that it took away their sweet cravings but had protein to fill them up and keep them full. Again, it was ALWAYS one of the top selling products!

Nutrition: 170 calories, 15 grams protein, 16 grams carbohydrate, 5.5 grams fat

Cost: Different deals available but at listing $13.95 for 7 bags ($2 per bar)

For a protein bar this is a great nutrition profile – the protein and carbs are nearly perfect in being balanced which is my top priority! Nonetheless it’s important to only replace one meal a day with it or use it as a replacement for when you are craving a dessert.

Protein Hot Chocolate

Another top seller – year round – but ceratinly in the winter months. This is one product I was known to use my employee discount on! It warms you up, it’s sweet, it tastes just like hot chocolate but it’s packed with protein and low in carbs! They sell several different flavors and other than probably the raspberry I loved them all :)

Nutrition: 85 calories, 15 grams protein, 4 grams carbohydrate and 1 gram fat

Cost: On sale at the time of this post! $11.15 for 7 packs

This is one product I let my pre-ops, post-ops and liquid diet patients all have. Always clear with your programs dietitian.

High Protein Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal

High Protein Oatmeal | Weight Loss Surgery Breakfast | FoodCoach.Me

This is another personal favorite as well as a big hit among patients. There are always a few patients that just didn’t like it, but they were far outweighed by the patients that loved this product and were so thankful for an oatmeal option that worked for them.

Note: many programs are okay with oatmeal. Some of them have you get away from it later because you don’t get much protein. This is one food item that patients get differing opinions on. My own opinion is that any oatmeal available in the grocery store is packed with carbohydrates and will increase your hunger in the long run. Oats also have a swelling factor in your small pouch which can either be uncomfortable or fill you up quickly but leave you hungry sooner.

So why is this one okay? I would say this one is still an occasional situation. It does have far less carbohydrates but still be aware if it’s keeping your hunger controlled through the day!

Nutrition: 100 calories, 14 grams protein, 8 grams carbohydrate and 1 gram fat

Cost: Different deals available but at listing $13.95 for 7 packets ($2 per bar)
